We have heard rumors of a Mitsubishi i EV roadster going to Pikes Peak on the web. You likely won't be seeing one at Jeff D'Ambrosio Mitsubishi in Downingtown, but we can tell you that it will be based off of the current electric hatchback that Mitsubishi is offering.

"On July 8th 2012, Mitsubishi will race up Pike's Peak in a modified, all electric Mitsubishi i-MiEV," according to reports.¹

Nobody really know what the "i" sports car will have under the hood, however, reports suggest it will have the exact same motor and batteries used in the production version of the hatchback.

Mitsubishi i weighs about 2,500-lbs, and produces 66 horsepower and 145 lb-feet of torque. Power comes from the rear, connected to a one-speed transmission.

The roadster will have a different (aka, bigger) wheel and tire combination, as well as racing required roll-cage.
